Why use ITIL? IT Service Management
|
As IT takes the forefront in delivering competitive advantage to the business, many organizations are realizing the need to truly align IT department goals with overall organizational objectives. To suport those objectives, business processes and strategies are created.
Now more than any other time, IT Services enable business processes and strategies; providing the ability to sense change and respond acccordingly. IT’s underlying goal is to help lines of business improve productivity, compliance and deliver decisional data.
IT Service Management assures efficient and effective provisioning of IT services to lines of business and assures proper management of an organization’s infrastructure (on which the services rely).
The IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a set of best practices and processes for the management of the Infrastructure and the delivery of services and support. ITIL provides a consistent framework and a common language to improve IT Service Management enabling business processes to succeed.
In short, the starting point for IT Service Management (ITSM) is not technology; it is the overall organizational goals and the ITIL Framework is the foundation for executing IT’s role in support of those goals.
